Body
A significant medieval church once stood on the site. The plans for its renovation, expansion, and extension were prepared by Debreczeni László in 1930. Debreczeni refers to a new church design by Kós Károly. It appears that the issue was not merely that the local congregation rejected the 1930 plan, but that Kós’s proposal was also deemed unacceptable: the church built on the plot in 1933 was realized according to the plans of another architect. The involvement of both Debreczeni and Kós indicates that the church at Baca was an important issue for the emerging, church-sponsored historic preservation movement, and that such initiatives were not always well received at the local level.
