Body
This design represents a surprising departure from Kós’s earlier rural houses conceived for hillside sites. His relationship with the older Thoroczkai Wigand Ede is likely reflected in the influence evident here: the entirely thatched, highly picturesque roof form is rendered with exceptional evocative power in a watercolor-like manner, a phenomenon without precedent in Kós’s architectural oeuvre. Comparable depictions of thatched roofs appear in drawings of local rural houses and ancillary buildings, such as those published in Old Kalotaszeg.
In this two-storey villa design, several important elements re-emerge, including the enclosing perimeter wall and the small entrance gate opening onto a closed inner courtyard.
