Body

Kós Károly and Zrumeczky Dezső prepared several small school designs for remote rural communities. Kós’s designs were produced as part of the school-building program of the Ministry of Culture led by Schwáb Gyula and Kertész K. Róbert. Although it is unlikely that any of the five designs were actually realized—for example, Zrumeczky’s school at Hilibi was built only up to the level of the foundations—and although the drawing material has been lost, both the design for the Calvinist school in Kolozsvár and the built elementary school at Marosvécs demonstrate solutions to similar design tasks. Based on the plans of Kertész and Schwáb, as well as those of Toroczkai Wigand Ede, numerous small schools and community buildings were realized in Transylvania during this period. The commission temporarily exempted Kós from active military service.
