The student design prepared for the small house demonstrates that the architect recognized the fundamental forms of Székely architecture at an early stage. A pyramidal tent roof encloses a simple rectangular ground plan. The use of materials is clearly defined by the layered application of rubble stone, log construction, and shingle roofing.
The plan consists of a sequence of rooms arranged around a central dining room. The fireplace—shared by the dining room and the anteroom, which fulfilled a role similar to the “hall” popular in contemporary English architecture—was likewise an important characteristic of this design and of many of the architect’s later works.
