Body

In 1935, the leadership of the Roman Catholic Girls’ Club in Cluj purchased a plot of land at Lake Gyilkos. The intention was to provide a holiday and retreat facility for young Catholic women from Transylvania and the Banat, allowing them to spend time in the lake’s exceptional natural surroundings. Kós Károly prepared the design, which was sold in the form of a postcard as a so-called “brick certificate” (téglajegy) to support fundraising efforts.

Earlier, a holiday sanatorium had already been built at the lake for Dr. János Csíki. Kós Károly also designed a Roman Catholic chapel for the site, which likewise appeared in postcard form. The single-storey structure, with a cellar, log-wall construction, and rubble-stone base, shows clear affinities with the well-house designed by Kós for Dr. Kristóf Fogolyán (1926).

The project was never realized.
