Body

In the simple design prepared for the small Kalotaszeg village, the residence of the government official and the community facilities were housed under a single roof. The small hall/assembly room and the offices face the street, while the residential part of the building is set slightly farther back, toward the rear. The central entrance serves the community functions and the official’s office, while the residential unit has separate front and rear entrances.

The distinct functions of the building are further emphasized by the roof design: in fact, at the main entrance the structure could have been divided into two, forming two completely separate buildings. This “add-on” aspect of Kós’s designs consistently played an important practical role in poorer rural contexts, where buildings were often constructed in stages. During construction, the roof form underwent simplification and minor modifications.

The building was renovated in 1996–1997.
