The design prepared for Sovata shows an almost complete correspondence with the drawing titled Hungarian Farmstead at the Foot of the Vlădeasa, published on page 37 of Old Kalotaszeg. The manuscript for this work was produced by Károly Kós in Sztána during the winter of 1910–1911.

The design was published by A. S. Levetus in the Viennese journal Der Architekt, 1911, Vol. XVII, no. 3, p. 20. Further details emerge from the following open letter by Kós Károly:

“…Since the ‘Villa’ on page 18 is none other than the Folyovits House in Cluj, which I designed and supervised under both our names; and since the ‘Landhaus’ on page 20 is none other than the Sovata project published under both our names, but in fact taken from my work Song of King Attila and designed and drawn by me, with the perspective likewise executed by me; and since I have thus far granted no one the right to dispose of this joint work, I hereby call upon you to rectify this unlawful and wholly unjustifiable audacity without delay, by publishing corrective lines under your own name in the next issue of the aforementioned journal…”

Ellenzék, Vol. XXXII, no. 79 (6 April 1911), p. 6.

Six days later, a further open letter by Kós clarified the matter:

Esteemed

EDE VIGAND, applied artist

MAROSVÁSÁRHELY

In your letter addressed to me and dated the 7th of the current month, you acknowledge that the ‘Villa’ and ‘Landhaus’ published on pages 18 and 20 of Der Architekt, Vol. XVII, no. 3, are indeed our joint designs, which were incorrectly published under your name alone. I have also received, read, and forwarded to the editorial office of Der Architekt the corrective statement enclosed with your letter.

As this rectification has resolved the most important issue, I consider the matter closed on my part.

Cluj, 12 April 1911

Károly Kós, certified architect.
