Excerpt from an interview by Tóbiás Áron with Kós Károly:

T. Á.: “When your assignment in Constantinople ended, what did you do next?”

K. K.: “That was already in the summer of 1918, and I happened to return home in such a way that the Ministry of Agriculture at the time—whose state secretary was Bartóky József, whom I had met earlier in Zebegény—commissioned me to design a kind of hunting lodge in Görgény for Archduke Joseph, in the state-owned forests of Görgény. And for that reason I was to come home, to select the site and see where something could be done… I came home then, chose the site there, and made the sketches, which were accepted.”*

(Áron Tóbiás: Rescued Tape Recordings. In: Olvasó Nép, no. 37, 1988, p. 150.)

József főherceg was the chief patron of the Budapest Zoo and, incidentally, the principal organizer of the war exhibitions held in Lemberg and on Margaret Island between 1916 and 1918. The year 1918 was also when IV. Károly appointed him supreme commander of all Hungarian troops and his own plenipotentiary governor in Hungary.
