Church, Sztána

This was the first of several churches designed or renovated by Károly Kós for local Romanian congregations. The existing wooden church was sold to the neighboring village of Kispetri. A comparison between Kós’s perspective drawing from 1924 and the church in its present state is instructive. Although the building generally corresponds to the architect’s design, the refinement and level of detail evident in the original plan were either not fully realized in construction or have been lost over time through the effects of age and the villagers’ enthusiastic maintenance and repairs.
