Body
Kós Károly’s original design is striking in that the building simultaneously presents two contrasting façades: an asymmetrical eastern front characteristic of his work, and a symmetrical western façade evoking the typical form of a manor house. Since in his 1929 essay The Székely House Kós mentions a similar manor at Szentiván, it may be assumed that the unusual “two-faced” character of the original design represents an experimental attempt to fuse the contemporary family house with the traditional formal language of the manor, while still preserving local traditions.
From the interior furnishings designed by Kós, a few armchairs have survived. Unfortunately, the building as realized bears little resemblance to the known plans.
