Body

This important example of the folk college network was created to support the further education of the rural community. Following its establishment, the sculptor Jenő Szervátiusz also taught here. Three pavilions of varying size and character—evoking the 1910 Városmajor school—are connected by a covered circulation spine. The building’s linear composition, in which the small, chapel-like entrance hall and the two-storey school building run parallel to the road, is situated directly opposite the renowned Csíksomlyó church.

In comparison with the earlier school design from 1910, the transitions between the individual elements are more abrupt; despite the consistent use of stone and timber structures, the complex appears more as three distinct components than as a single, unified composition. The smallest pavilion likely served a residential function on the ground floor, supplemented by additional rooms in the attic above. A small covered porch is incorporated into the characteristic semicircular projection of the main façade.

The central pavilion—resembling a small stone church and functioning as the community center of the school—contains a stage, dressing rooms on two levels, and an auditorium of approximately 110 square meters. The auditorium can be accessed from both sides through the connecting entrance spaces. The largest pavilion accommodates classrooms on two levels and likely also includes a dormitory, accessed from the central hall via the internal extension of the external connecting spine.

In the area behind the school, a new school building was constructed in the mid-1990s (design process beginning in 1990).
