Országzászló Monument, Sepsiszentgyörgy

Károly Kós was commissioned in January 1941 to prepare the design for the Országzászló (National Flag) memorial. He delivered the detailed design in July 1941. The monument was subsequently realized; however, the detailed execution drawings were prepared by Rezső Haáz, and the stone carving was carried out by István Puskás. The completed monument does not fully correspond to Kós’s original design, differing from it in both details and execution.

Károly Kós commissioned to design the base of the National Flag monument in Sepsiszentgyörgy

The National Association of Auxiliary Administrative Officials has donated a National Flag to Sepsiszentgyörgy. According to plans, the flag will be brought from Budapest in May by a distinguished delegation. In Sepsiszentgyörgy, an ornate pedestal will be constructed for the flag, the preparatory work for which has been undertaken by the Székely National Museum. To this end, Károly Kós was invited to design the pedestal in a Székely style.

According to reports, Kós is expected to arrive in Sepsiszentgyörgy in the coming days in order to prepare the design of the pedestal on the basis of an on-site inspection, which will undoubtedly result in a worthy frontier memorial.

The costs of the pedestal will be covered partly by the city and partly through public fundraising.

It is also worth noting here that the auxiliary administrative officials of Sepsiszentgyörgy were the first in Transylvania to establish their local group. The officers of the group are as follows: President Károly Sigmond; Executive President Sándor László; Vice President Ferenc Dombrády; Secretary General Géza Bartha; Secretary Gyula Ördög; Treasurer Jenő Tordai; Auditor András Porzsolt. Committee members: Géza László, Ferenc Gocz, Gábor Kovács, Lajos Jákó, János Gánya, Sándor Kerekes, Sándor Bartha, Dénes Ferencz, Károly Karda, and Gyula Vitályos. Alternate members: Gyula Bardócz, Mózes Fazekas, Mihály Béres, Elemér Molnár, and Mrs. Róbert Giezel.
